Guest
<_<You are standing outside a room in which there are three lights. The door to the room is shut and on the wall beside the door are three light switches How do you find out which light switch belongs to which light while only entering the room once? P.s it's quite simple really
0 Guest
i feel this is a familiar problem, Has this one been on Brainden already? turn on two of the switches, wait one minute, turn one switch off. Go into the room. The light that is on is the switch in the "on" position. Carefully feel the other two bulbs, the one which is warm is the switch you turned on then off, and the cold bulb is the switch in the off position. 0 Guest
Turn two of the switches on and wait a while. Turn one of the switches off and go into the other room. The light that is off but warm corresponds to the switch you just turned off. The cool light that's off corresponds to the off switch. The light that's on corresponds to the switch that is on. This was already posted somewhere.<_<You are standing outside a room in which there are three lights. 0 Guest
Simplify - open the door and stand in the doorway, then turn the lights on one at a time and see which switch goes to which light.

The door to the room is shut and on the wall beside the door are three light switches How do you find out which light switch belongs to which light while only entering the room once? P.s it's quite simple really Step 1) Turn on the first light switch and wait 5-10 minutes. Step 2) Turn off the first light switch. Step 3) Turn on the second light switch. Step 4) Enter the room. Light that is on is switch 2. Light that is off, but HOT is switch 1. Light that is off, but COOL is switch 3.

0 Guest
Sorry that's cheating!!! Says who? Not the original riddle - it only said the door was shut, not that it has to remain shut while you try the switches. You have to open it to enter the room anyway so why not open it and stay in the opening...

Carefully feel the other two bulbs, the one which is warm is the switch you turned on then off, and the cold bulb is the switch in the off position. The riddle would have to indicate that the bulbs were incandescent for this to be correct (which in itself is a spoiler) since most bulbs I use do not generate that amount of heat, in addition to the fact that there's no indication the bulbs are within touching distance (they could be e.g. on the ceiling.) This is more of a gestalt puzzle than a riddle, isn't it?
0 rookie1ja
Welcome to the Den, undercovergenius. This is one of my favorites and that's why it is already posted - including 258 replies. It is actually the very first puzzle on my site. Reading "Important: READ BEFORE POSTING" (the link is at the top as well) might help you to do a quick search before you post a puzzle that you have not created. Enjoy the Den Thread closed.
