Virgin Riddle

Question

Shakeepuddn    4

By enemy forged in fiery hearth.

Across deep water a jewel’s true course,

One virgin clapping sealing doom,

Her golden rings borne too soon.

Beauty yoked upon a scaffold

From waist to lip defiled, rattled.

All who saw her gasped in horror.

“She must live!” each witness swore.

She opens doors for stately kings

Alas, she cannot bear her rings.

I really hope that this is not solved by tomorrow, I want to be able to help solve it if I can.

This one is terrific! I'm clueless, but it's got my brain buzzing!

Thanks Grayven. This is my personal favorite to date. When you see (get) the answer, you'll understand why.

Rings, Kings, Jewels... I'm perplexed.

I feel like I'll have a better platform from which to jump once we figure out "waist to lip"... Why lip? Why waist? I'm befludberghasted.

Sorry, no clues on this one; that would defile her virginity. :D

Wow. Nice riddle.

Marie Antoinette

I don't know if this is right, I will think about all day either way.

Some parts just seemed to fit and I couldn't figure out others.

Is it the Liberty Bell?

BONG!!!!

The Liberty Bell was ordered from and forged in England (ironic). Before it was ever hung in the steeple, it was put on a scaffold and tested . . . "CRACK!"

The crack was from the lip of the bell (where the "clapper" hits), to the middle of the "waist" or body. The wooden bar the bell is hung from is called the "yoke." Those who saw this happen were aghast and they had it recast by John Pass and John Stow. The bell was rung on special occasions, such as to open the First Continental Congress.

Outstanding Jeff. I didn't think this would be "cracked" so quickly. Oh well.

Very clever, Tremblingcustard. "Rings" had me stuck on either finger rings or ringlets of hair, which I'm sure you intended. I really liked the feel of this one.
