Question

Alone, wandering,

But not without aim.

Hidden in plain sight,

Same features, same name.

Riding the beast,

Through the heat and the hate.

Through these eyes, a glimpse,

Of the other man's fate.

Truth and revelation,

In the end of the Dream.

The work I have wrought,

And my name you must glean.

Enjoy. :P

From the latest clues, I gather my last guess was wrong.

Rosa Parks Edit: Nevermind. I missed what Mickey's guess was. Still thinking.

First; great puzzle. It's led my mind to quite a few different conclusions. Your latest clues have scrambled my brain a bit, but that's the sign of a good riddle.

R.F. Kennedy? The clues about the other man's fate (his brother John was assassinated 4 years before he was), and the same features same name clues wouldn't get out my head when I was trying to think of the answer. Similarly, he is popularly viewed as a martyr for the Civil Rights movement, however the majority of those who believe this are unaware of his efforts with the FBI to spy on MLK Jr., which leads to me back to the messiah/pariah clue.

I'm likely reading too much into your clues, but figured it was worth a shot.

Too much or not enough, either way this one is incorrect.

Ok, looking up autobiographies of civil rights activists. I think I am now outside my realm of education, so some of these may not be a great fit.

How about Marshall Thurgood?

Micky: no, no, no, and no.

I was wondering if you were going to find this. Interesting guess, but no. We are indeed looking for an actual person.

Am I barking up the wrong tree? I can't think of what else would involve:

civil rights/race, buses, region, in the deep south!

Oh yeah, how about Emmett Till?

Edit: Or Corretta Scott King?

Keep barking. Right tree, wrong branches. I doubt many in the current generation would have any prior knowledge.

The title of the work was taken from a Hughes poem actually. That should lead us somewhere, perhaps?
;)

Oh boy.

A Raisin in the Sun? Maybe Sidney Poitier or Lorraine Hansberry?
