Question

Alone, wandering,

But not without aim.

Hidden in plain sight,

Same features, same name.

Riding the beast,

Through the heat and the hate.

Through these eyes, a glimpse,

Of the other man's fate.

Truth and revelation,

In the end of the Dream.

The work I have wrought,

And my name you must glean.

Enjoy. :P

Alone, wandering,

Searching

Hidden in plain sight,

Same features, same name.

Interpret as:

1. Identical to one's self

2. A reflection

Riding the beast,

Through the heat and the hate.

Located in a desert, in the middle of a war

Just a random guess, but this sound a lot like "Operation: Desert Storm"

First of all, I have to be careful with my hints so please bear with me. And, as always, please use spoilers.

may i ask,

is this whole scenario you describe a part of this dream that in the end he finds truth and revelation?

is indeed a part of the "Dream", so to speak. But I'm pretty sure that information will take you in the wrong direction.

riding the beast??? an expression???? or is he not really alone?

Good questions. To answer would render the riddle much easier, I'm afraid. Perhaps I'll give more as this puzzle wears on.

Alone, wandering,

But not without aim.

Searching

Hidden in plain sight,

Same features, same name.

Interpret as:

1. Identical to one's self Yep, almost exactly.

2. A reflection This interpretation has been made before, in fact. We'll see if it leads back to the solution.

Riding the beast,

Through the heat and the hate.

Located in a desert, nope in the middle of a war Only metaphorically.

Just a random guess, but this sound a lot like "Operation: Desert Storm" It is not. Great job with the initial analysis.

Look inside your spoiler for notes. ;)

It is the video game Assassins Creed

Alone, wandering,

But not without aim.---Searching for the map that hides the rest of the mystical pieces.

Hidden in plain sight,

Same features, same name.---He is an assassin who hides in plain sight because it is one of the assassin's codes

Riding the beast,

Through the heat and the hate.---This either means he rides horses through the middle east or works for bad guys all the time.

Through these eyes, a glimpse,

Of the other man's fate.---He is remembering the memories of one of his ancestors.

Truth and revelation,

In the end of the Dream.---He finds out that he is working for bad guys at the end of his dream because he is using a dream machine that scans his DNA for memories of his ancestors

The work I have wrought,

And my name you must glean.

Martin Luther King jr?

it's a bit of a sketchy fit, but the Dream part made me think of him, and also reminded me of the reflection pool in DC.

as it says "now my name you must gleam" im guess it must be a person, and not an operation or video game, right?
but your "assassin" has missed the mark. (pardon the pun)

I'm not much of a gamer any more, so I've not heard of the game. It DOES sound like a compelling storyline.

Is incorrect, I'm afraid. It does, however put you in the ballpark in a major way. I won't tell you how, of course.
Yes, we're looking for a person, but keep in mind that the last two lines go together.

[spoiler='Well... In that case...

Gahndi was an activist. Conspicuous and not hidden in any way, really. I like the guess though.

If your guess is in response to my previous clue, then you picked the wrong direction. I was afraid that might happen. B))

Maybe I am WAY off... but I thought I would go through the riddle bit by bit. Am I on the right track?

Alone, wandering,

But not without aim.

(Person obviously has a mission)

Hidden in plain sight,

(this one beffudles me)

Same features, same name.

Riding the beast,

(alone with conscience?)

Through the heat and the hate.

(Interviewing ones consecience?)

Through these eyes, a glimpse,

(thinking.)

Of the other man's fate.

(feeling guilty because of a crime. Trying to see through the victims eyes)Truth and revelation,

In the end of the Dream.

(seeing throught the other mans eyes was like a vision and a revalation maybe)

The work I have wrought,

And my name you must glean.

(Not postive on that one)

i am looking forward to the answer

is the person a pariah or martyr?

Martyr, as a matter of definition.

Dickens, A Christmas Carol

Since you figured out the "author" angle, I can point out that the last two lines are

"The work I have wrought,

and MY NAME you must glean.

Examine this part carefully for a big clue that might lead you in the right direction.

That we are dealing with a poet. Quite a few come to mind...

My guess would be Dante. Oh, or perhaps Goethe? Too many to choose from! Edit: Just realized, T.S. Eliot would be a good pick, too!
