Lexington, MA?

Paul Revere immediately comes to mind.

‘Cross bridge and ‘long the watercourse' means he had to cross the Charles River up in Boston, Mass and ride to Lexington to warn the colonists of the British invasion. 'Sooty smith' means he was a silversmith.

Shakee, I love your riddles! Keep 'em coming!

The pressures on, the news is hot, - news of the britsh coming would be 'hot' news

The message comes, it doesn’t stop. - the ride lasted until it terminated in lexington

Cross bridge and ‘long the watercourse - paul revere went across the river while his accomplice, dawes, took the land route that crossed a bridge

The rider comes on airy horse. - both dawes and paul revere rode horses

Savage signals warn in beat - they yelled the news of the british coming and the signal of the fire could be called 'savage' because fire can be quite savage

That soon the maker they will meet! - the minutemen would soon attack and kill the british

So Sooty Smith plies his trade. - paul revere was among other things a silver smith

See the cowboy mount! - he was a jack of all trades but idk about cowboy

It’s on its way! - the message was on the way

Name the “town.” - paul revere passed through charlestown on his way to lexington

You answer is incorrect, though well thought out and presented. Please read my previous post regarding metaphor. Thanks

For some reason I was thinking the messenger spacecraft. But I doubt that that's what the title is getting at...

The pressures on, the news is hot, --Venus is Hot and high pressure...mercury is very hot...

The message comes, it doesn’t stop. --Messenger is transmitting signals back to earth still

‘Cross bridge and ‘long the watercourse --Umm...space? orbit?

Savage signals warn in beat --The signal sent back to earth

Like I said, pretty sure it's wrong...Which if the rider or whatever is the messenger, then Mercury would be the "town" since that's its primary target...

Dr. Strangelove? The first image evoked is that a nuclear weapon. Especially with Slim Whitman(The cowboy) riding it. The "town" could be Megeddio. The ancient mountain where the final battle between good and evil is to take place and after which Armageddon is named.

Edit

The pressures on, the news is hot,

The message comes, it doesn’t stop.

‘Cross bridge and ‘long a watercourse

The rider comes on airy horse.

A savage signal thumps a beat

That soon the message you will get!

So Sooty Smith plies his trade.

See cowboy mount! It’s on its way!

Last edit:

The message comes, it doesn’t stop.

‘Cross bridge and ‘long a watercourse

The message comes on airy horse.

A savage signal thumps a beat

That soon the message you will get!

Sooty Smith plies his trade

To where a cowboy mounts . . .

Better I think, less misleading.

The pressures on, the news is near,

The message comes, it’s almost here.

‘Cross bridge, then ‘long a watercourse

The message came on airy horse.

An unseen drum thumps a beat

And soon the message you will greet.

Busy Smith then plies his trade

Where cowboys mount . . .

It’s on its way!
