Question

Two friends are running a race together. They both have different endurances so they decide to run separately so they can finish as soon as they can. The first friend is going to run at intervals of running 6 miles an hour for seven minutes and walking 3 miles an hour for nine minutes. The second friend has better endurance and can run 11 kilometers an hour for eight minutes and will walk at 4 kilometers an hour for six minute intervals.

A) If the race is three decameters long who will cross the finish line first?

B) How long does it take each of them?

A decameter is only 10 meters, so 3 of em is 30 meters, not very far in a race...

the 1st friend runs at 6mph for seven minutes, he is running at 9kph, and will run the distance slower than his friend running at 11kph.. both runners cross the finish line in under 1 min.

Each will go over 100 decameters in their run period.

no. 2 going faster thus winning

no.2=3.0555... mins.

no.1=2.07336... mins.

Sorry I won't be able to verify my math, I'm under a tight schedule.

i was trying to say something that was 10,000 meters. so would decakilometers be right? or just 30 kilometers?

10 millimeters (mm) = 1 centimeter (cm)

10 centimeters = 1 decimeter (dm)

10 decimeters = 1 meter (m)

10 meters = 1 dekameter (dam)

10 dekameters = 1 hectometer (hm)

10 hectometers = 1 kilometer (km)

10 kilometers = 1 myriameter (mym)

One kilometer is equivalent to 0.62 miles

whoops. ment to say decimeters. ty for pointing that out, it should be a bit longer race now

I will call person 1 Jack and person 2 Matt.

Matt has been nominated to start the race

He states the following...

"Ready, Set, Banana!"

Jack, being in poor physical condition, just wasn't physically capable of taking the prank.

He had a heart attack and fell, straight forward, flat on his face, unwittingly positioning himself both behind the starting line, and beyond the finish line.

Matt curses silently to himself and attempts to move Jack.

Jack, not being underweight, is rooted tightly to the spot.

Matt decides to start the race for the heck of it.

Jack's time: 0 secs.

Matt's time: 0.5 secs

Jack is clearly the winner

Matt accepts his doom and finally realizes it may be a good time to call 9-11.

After calling, he initiates CPR.

While he is constantly moving from chest compressions to resuscitation, he realizes that dead men don't reveal their secrets.

He stops CPR

He then proceeds to check Jack's Pockets.

After pocketing the goods, he leaves a note Reading the following:

"Gone for help"

He then heads home to count his earnings
