Cowboys and Indians Riddle

Question

Face to face, four against one

The cowboy looks to a rising sun.

Four crowns only, one breast shown,

Six old Indians sharing their home.

Father and author, keepers two,

Born of destruction, fourteen they grew.

Hard and heartless, indomitable wills,

The visions of titans encompass the hills.

:o Damn!!!!!! You trashed it in seconds!!! Arrrgggghhhhh! What tipped it off so easily, the titans and hills part?

Good job, though. Hrummph!

:(

I wasn't sure about the direction, but Roosevelt faces a different direction than the others.

It seemed so obvious, that I was sure I was wrong, in fact. Sorry...

I am still curious about the Indians though. I'm not that familiar with the details.

"Face to face, four against one" refers to four faces upon the face of the mountain.

Roosevelt was actually a frontiersman and often referred to as a cowboy. He faces east, away from the others. Four crowns means four heads, but Washington's breast was sculpted as well. Mt. Rushmore was originally called Six Grandfathers by the Indians.

Washington is the father of the nation, Jefferson the author of Declaration of Independence, Lincoln kept the union from division and Roosevelt was a conservationist who established National Parks. Their eyes look out upon the Black Hills of S. Dakota.

Nice work.

If you had been my History teacher in school, I might have gleaned a bit more knowledge. Terriffic job. You make Lit a treat too, for that matter.

Thanks Grayven, but I just have to smack my head on this one. It could've been the best of the lot. I've since changed it and think it so now. I'm calling it the "Showdown Riddle."

Face to face, it’s four against one

As the cowboy sees a rising sun.

None are armed, one breast is shown,

Six old Indians gave them a home.

The father, the sheriff, the lawyer so true,

Another held feathers, for fourteen they grew.

Hard and heartless with indomitable wills,

Eyes of these heroes look to the hills.

Beautiful poem, Reminds me of

Rushmore
