0 Guest Posted February 18, 2009 Report Share Posted February 18, 2009 (edited) we're going by how many letters are in the name of the number, right? but in the original sequence, wouldn't 4 or 5 be before 9? and 11 before 20? 1, 9, 7, 20, 15, 19 1 = one = 3 9 = nine = 4 7 = seven = 5 20 = twenty = 6 15 = fifteen = 7 19 = nineteen = 8 I get that seventeen is the first number to have 9 letters, but the original list doesn't seem to be bound by that particular restriction, so how do we know that seventeen is the correct answer? It could be 21 or 36 or 92. I believe those other suggestions are all two words (or at least hyphenated). Seventeen is the only single word for a number that is nine characters that I could think of. There could be another number which, when spelled out is only one word but 9 characters (I can't think of it either, but as I've said before, I'm not all that clever). At least, the initial pattern was simply of 1-word, x+1 characters per number, not necessarily the lowest number that would have so many letters.
