Question

Together yet separate,

I never can retire;

For though I may stop working,

I am reborn by fire.

Conceived by one not dumb,

And born by killing another,

I am perfected by the noise,

Though I never had a mother.

You might use intelligence,

While others ask a doctor.

To solve this one, you may need to ask questions;

I will be your proctor.

I thinks its a CPU, inspired by colorclown's idea above.

The main clues that lead me to this are the reference to mother, the motherboard of a computer.

Noise, or sound which is measured in Hertz, which is also how the speed of a CPU is measured. So the higher the hertz the more perfect.

And the final stanza refers to intelligence, or Intel, and a doctor or "a MD", AMD, the two leading chip makers.

I still cant figure out how this applies to the first stanza though.

The idea is right for the last stanza.

"I never had a mother" rules out the first clue you gleaned.

"Noise" is not as it seems.

Modem or Speaker?

Maybe I should be more specific...

A high Speed Internet Modem. Most likely Cable Modem as it's always on, and if it stops working you need to reset it (fire= electricity)

The noise = the information (data packets) sent and received

Intel/AMD are just clues that it is computer related...

Modems (GPS you were probably thinking)can be used in bombs...

terminator? if anyone had see the latest movie, new terminator can spilt and together, once it stop work, it still can be reboot, "fire" and obvisouly who created terminators are brilliant but when they are born, they kill human being, we use intelligence to beat them but we may have to use doctor to heal us, arnold is our proctor cuz we screw up his cpu... latest terminator is so tangible if we touch it, it kills us instantly and will look like us.

You're hitting all around it, but not quite there.

video games?? for lack of imagination, i am thinking that video games sell out like they are on fire, we use intelligent to beat them but once we become addiction to them, we would have to ask doctor to help us with our addiction in which they become our protection becuause games we play define us. i am just throw up stuff

Is it a computer? Or a just a motherboard?

Together, yet separate meaning the boards/processors/components/drives

I can never retire meaning that it can always be repaired... unless you get a new machine :)

If it ever REALLY stops working, it can always be soldered and fixed.

Conceived by someone smart... obviously.

If you build a computer, you usually take parts from other machines.

Oscilloscopes fine tune the the components, perfecting it.

It has a motherboard yet, no mother.

Intelligence/doctor = Intel/AMD

If you want to find the answer to a question, you would get on the computer and check it out.

That's all I can think of.

Wow, I'm really interested in this one.

It's tangible, and unless I am mistaken, some of the closest answers are related to wiring/electronics. It's something you might not want to touch, and you might find it in a bomb.

Is it a capacitor or transistor? Or am I thinking too specifically?

is the answer more/less/as specific as the previous answers of sound card/circuit board etc?

It's similar.

Too general.

Try harder... you're just as close.

Side note: It's been two weeks and a day.... wow.
