Question

Bonanova "Sums" puzzles got me thinking of other ways to make 100 using all the numbers from 1 through 9. This one is a bit different, however. How many ways can you express 100 as a mixed number using all whole digit 1 through 9? Meaning as a fraction, without signs or exponents or anything of that sort.

im just wondering: isn't that a improper fraction? Is this topic open to both improper fractions and mixed numbers?

Maybe I should have stated "using all the digits 1 through 9 once" Anywho, you've got 1000.1 there. Oh, and no complex fractions, only those like the example I gave.

I noticed that. That's why I used my numbers more than once. But it works doesn't it? B))

Nope. A mixed number like I'm looking for is basicly saying X + Y/Z, like 11/2 is 1 plus a half. So you have 1000.1 with you're number. You would have to multiple them in your example, 1000 times .1 equals 100. In the example I gave the fraction reduces to 4/1 or just 4 added to the 96.

Here are all of the answers that follow the example given:

3 69258/714

81 5643/297

81 7524/396

82 3546/197

91 5742/638

91 5823/647

91 7524/836

94 1578/263

96 1428/357

96 1752/438

96 2148/537

I wrote a small Java program to find them all for me :c) Don't know if that's cheating, but I think it was a completely valid way to solve that riddle.

Great riddle, it was fun.

That's them. I fully expected someone to do some kind of spreadsheet to come up with them. I thought the first one you listed might be harder to determine. Good job.
