Using a tap, a container of 9 litres(Container A) and a container of 4 litres(Container B) can you measure 6 litres?

Fill 9 l and pour off 4 into 4 l. You now have 5 in 9l.

Dump 4l and pour off 4 more from 9l. You now have 1 in 9l.

Pour the remaining 1 into 4l. You now have 1 in 4l and 9l is empty.

Refill 9l and pour off 3 to fill 4l.

Now 6 remain in 9l.

fill 4L twice and pour in 9L making 8L in 9L

fill 4L again and put the other remaining 1L into the 9 making that full and leaving 3L in the 4L.

Pour out the 9L and pour the 3L into the 9L so 4L is now 0

Fill 4L and pour into 9L making 7L

Fill 4L and pour remaining 2L into 9L leaving 2L in 4L

Pour out 9L and pour the 2L into the 9L

Fill the 4L again and pour into the 9L making 6L

4

tip into nine

tilt the 4, filling so that rim is equal hight to apex of bottom - gives you half fill (2)

add to 4 = 6

voila

But what if containers are irregularly shaped and assymetric ? ;)
