Question

The conference room of the Redrum Law Firm was crowded.

Wealthy businessmen had passed away and all of his close and distant relatives were there at the opening of the will. The atmosphere was electric, there was a lot of commotion and people were suspiciously eying each other wondering who gets what and why are they all here??

The sound of the lawyer clearing his throat was the cue for everyone to sit down and hear the reading of the businessman’s will. To their utter disappointment, the businessman had left most of his money to charity organizations.

However every one of them has received an envelope with the following content:

“Hello my dear relative. I know we hadn’t spent almost any time together so this is what I have to offer. In the Rellik Bank I still have one safe deposit box. In order for you to open the safe, you’ll need a 7 digit number code!

How to obtain that code? Well here comes the fun part! Crack this riddle before anyone else does and you’ll be the one to open the safe and become the rightful owner of everything in it!”

Good luck!

In the envelope they have received there was a smaller envelope with a sheet of paper in it that said:

post-10350-1228500127.gif

After everyone read what’s in the envelope, some of them angrily torn it to pieces, but most of them kept them hoping that they will be the person to figure out the code and get what’s in the safe deposit box!

Can you crack the riddle before anyone else does??

edit: adding a hint and a smiley

No math!

:)

3355889 where the O falls on the line

Admitting I counted, and likely to be off track (wrong line even) maybe reverse order thinking about it

We have the "Redrum" Law Firm and "Rellik" Bank. Murder and Killer spelled backwards. So if all the words are spelled backwards, we have

R E V E R O F

E D I S T U O

E R E H W O N

R E V E R O F

D E N R O H T

R E V E R O F

D E R O N G I

Nope, still doesn't make sense. Am I getting close??

It's a long shot, but maybe

a telephone keypad? So if I have the pattern right with the words spelled backwards and going diagonally, it reads RDEEOOI, which is 7333664.

I still don't see how 0 and 6 would correspond to Z and X.

Oh wait, now I do, if you spell them out. Duh.

I can see...

0 and 6 are eliminated - because there are no z's or x's in any of the words.

I am not sure why 8 is out either though.

Because I didn't find the "G" the first time.... argh, sorry.

I can go with that except for one thing...

Judging from Andromeda's past posts, she is very thorough and if a telephone was the key, I feel sure she would have somehow eluded to it in the OP, but that's just my gut feeling

Of course, I've been wrong many times before! ;)

I have no clue what order to use, but...

if you spell out the numbers, using each letter once, I can get exactly 7 digits out of the list: 8,7,5,4,2,1,1. note there is one repetition.

I also got: 7,5,5,4,3,2,1,1, but that's too many digits.

Wow you have been busy guys. I've seen some interesting conclusions and ideas. I only quoted the posts that will get you to the final solution!

After reading the solution to your first treasure hunt, it pretty much blew my mind. But I'm still trying...

going diagonally from upper left to lower right. If I line up all the words, I get

F O R E V E R

O U T S I D E

N O W H E R E

F O R E V E R

T H O R N E D

F O R E V E R

I G N O R E D

but if you read each line diagonally, it still doesn't make sense.:blink::wacko:

edit: trying to make the lines easier to read diagonally

Check your spoiler!

OK

this was nice thinking, but we use Redrum all the time and I didn't want to use the same name for the bank so I put Rellik... but it has nothing to do with the solution!

I can go with that except for one thing...

You are absolutely right,

because 1 appears as a digit in the number!

And I would have given a hint on the picture! ;)

one question

does this riddle have to do with changing letters to numbers?

YES!

So in conclusion

I'll repeat what I said earlier

No math

No counting

Hearts not important

Lines important

Lines being diagonal is important

NO reading diagonally!

The riddle has to do with changing letters to numbers.

There's one more thing that I mentioned in my previous treasure hunt - PEN AND PAPER! ;)

That's where I was headed too, just hadn't had the time to do the leg work. Still, what order do they go in? I'm just missing the clues.

Do we have to write what you wrote diagonally?

FONFTFI

-OUOOHOG

--RTWRORN

---ESHEREO

----VIEVNVR

-----EDREEEE

------REERDRD

The first FOREVER is on top!

1357531? That is how many numbers would get crossed out if you draw diagonals starting in either corner and proceeding to the next. How 'bout that?

7*7 no left overs! In the end I confirmed you have to convert and NO COUNTING!

;)

Ok, based on everything I've read so far I came up with this code:

3663834

Do I get to open the deposit box?

Welcome to the boards :D Please use spoilers, some people don't want to see your answer

How do you arrive at that?

Sorry about not using the spoilers...

I was trying to convert letters to numbers via telephone pad but then realized that the diagonal lines are significant somehow so I gave up on that.

Crossing off letters as we go, start at the top spelling out numbers. The first letter is F so we could go with four or five, lets use four. This crosses off a F,O,R in the 1st line and a U in the 2nd. The next uncrossed letter is E, so we'll spell out Eight. The next usable letter is the O in the second line, so we'll spell out One. If we continue in this manner we end up with 4,8,1,7,1,5,3 and no more number can be spelled out. Close?

What happens if you start with five instead of four?

is it significant, or just a happy accident that...

the letters left over from spelling out numbers read " red rover red rover?"

That is interesting...but which numbers did you spell out exactly? I see a lot of different combos to spell out in there.

You are not close

but this is something you'll use in the end after you used pencil and paper!

What happens if you start with five instead of four?

Good point! So think about it!

is it significant, or just a happy accident that...

the letters left over from spelling out numbers read " red rover red rover?"

Happy accident! My riddles are always full of surprises like these!
