Question

This is my thousandth post and I prepared a humungous riddle but decided not to post it. Instead I did something more personal... In the next seven topics I’ll present you 21 Serbian riddle. Translated by yours truly. :) These riddles were passed on by generations. Most of them consist of archaic words. They are very simple, poetic and insightful. Most of them were just word games, hence impossible to translate. These, that I did manage to translate, are not literal translations. They are more and less true to the original, but I think I did a fair job and managed to keep their spark. I hope you’ll enjoy them...

#1

I can walk across the sea,

Without wetting my feet.

#2

Sitting in a trench,

Outside the city,

Hair is touching the sky,

But it ain’t pretty.

#3

Bird without teeth,

The whole white

World can eat.

:)

oh
the moon

Yes...

This is an old riddle so people who made it probably didn't even see the seaside but they have seen how the Moon beautifully reflects in water pools... In the original riddle it was actually "jump across the sea"...

lightning touching someone who is in a trench for protection that didn't work??

Wow... I never thought of that... it actually fits but it ain't

:)

But it could have something to do with lightning and combined with trees that I told you earlier. People in the old days were very poetic while making their riddles...

it could be talking about fire-smoke touches the sky and if you have a fire out fire outside your city it's not good (considering how old these might be) a wooden city

Actually in the original it does says city... and you are correct! :)

The ain't pretty part I added to make it rhyme!

ummmmm........

I'll go with dms172 with the fire thing. Could it be a flaming-lightning stuck-tree??

Hahaha...

I told you that it might have something to do with those things because when a lightning hits a tree it could create a fire and it doesn't necessarily has to rain.

:)

EDIT: I don't know I can see the rating button. It happened to me sometimes too.
