What 3 consecutive numbers cannot be divisible by 3?

• 0
0,1,2

0 + 1 + 2 = 3

3 / 3 = 1

-1, 0, 1

is 0 allowed? I know negative answers are out of the question...if not, there would be infinite answers [-1, -2, -3], nor would any decimals, because that's cheating, so I think we're dealing with integers here...but help me out is 0 an integer? I don't think so...

It should say evenly divisible by three. 1/3 is a number, after all.

0,1,2

However, 0/3 is truly zero, so if this is the intended answer (which it might not be) then it is a flawed question.

But isn't this divisible by three?

What I wanted to know is 'cannot be divisible by 3'

Question was "What 3 consecutive numbers cannot be divisible by 3?

Thanks

The sum of any 3 consecutive integers are divisible by 3

I'm afraid I still don't understand exactly what you're getting at...

Could you clarify it any or am I just missing something?

The question "What 3 consecutive numbers cannot be divisible by 3?" or

"what 3 consecutive numbers cannot be divided by 3?" This is a question my granddaughter called me about this morning and I am trying to find someone that knows the answer. Integers I know nothing about. I'm from the old school. Add, subtract, multiply, and divide. Worked fine but this is probably pre-algebra. If you use fancy math talk you'll have to break it down to simple math terms.

Thanks

I'm confused- is the question asking you to:

1) Find three consecutive numbers that each cannot be divisible by 3?

or

2) Find three consecutive numbers in which the their combined sum cannot be divisible by 3?

if it's 1, then i'm sure such a trio of numbers exists (0,1,2 maybe?)

but if it's 2, im pretty sure it's mathematically impossible

if you add three consecutive numbers together and divide by three, it will always equal the middle number

(unless you use decimals, fractions, negatives, etc)

if you go 1, 2, 3, that doesn't work! If all #s have to be postitive, than does 012 work? otherwise there is no answer!!

But maybe that's the answer you're looking for..................

Well, 0, 1, 2 is the only possible answer i should think.

I bet that's what they're lookin for!!

No three consecutive numbers cannot be divisible by three (excuse my poor wording there)

If you have 1, 2, 3 then three is divisible by three. 2, 3, 4, again the three is divisible by three. 4, 5, 6, the six is divisible by three. And 0 is divisible by three, as it still leaves a whole number of 0.

So the answer is that there are no numbers that work.

whether it is 3 consecutive numbers together or the sum of 3 consecutive numbers there is only one answer.

eg:

012 = (12) 12/3 = 4 ______0 + 1 + 2 = 3/3 = 1

123 = 123/3 = 41 ________1 + 2 + 3 = 6/3 = 2

234 = 234/3 = 78 ________ 2 + 3 + 4 = 9/3 = 3

345 = 345/4 = 115________3 + 4 + 5 = 12/3 = 4

-101 = -101/3 = -33.66666________ -1 + 0 + 1 = 0_____0/3 = 0

-2-10 = -201 -201/3 = 67_________-2 + -1 + 0 = -3/3 = -1

-3-2-1 =-321 -321/3 = 107________-3 + -2 + -1 = -6/3 =-2

-4-3-2 = -432 -432/3 = -144_______-4 + -3 + -2 = -9/3 = -3

-5-4-3 = -543 -543/3 = -181_______-5 + -4 + -3 = -12/3 = -4

Sorry I made a mistake on line -2-10

It should say"

-2-10 = -210/3 = -70

-3-2-1 = -321/3 = -107

binary is just another way of writing the exact same numbers, so all the same mathematical statements will hold.

I had to take my 11 year old daughter to a netball tournament yesterday. As it was an hours drive I thought I would give her this puzzle to work on so the drive wouldn't be so long for her. It took her 10 minutes to come up with the answer I got (without any help from me). I asked her to do the 3 consecutive numbers and the sum of 3 consecutive numbers (seeing they had the same result when I worked on the puzzle). What I would like to know is, does anyone actually know the correct answer? It would be nice to know if I was right or wrong so I can definitely tell my daughter she was right (or wrong).

Thanks

890 and 901 (using the premise that '3 consecutive numbers' means '012, 123, 234...')

maybe binary numbers than converted into normal numbers???

1,10,11 which is 1,2,3

1+10+11=22
