Robin Hood

This is a great answer, I'll spoiler why I don't think it works. If you still think it works, then let me know.

Everything works except the gluttonous part. Robin Hood's men weren't taking from the rich for themselves, or with a gluttonous intent.

Though not what I had in mind, this answer may work. Would you like to fit it to the riddle?

It was more a feeling and I didn't want to post it, but if you don't you feel you mug yourself if it's right.

For all who cherish and know my name - given

With gluttonous hopes ask not in vain - gluttony (wolverine) wishful thinking

Whether they will swindle victims - Based on a non Christian view, then deciples are deceiving encouraging belief

Or take from them what they will give them - there hopes and aspirations

not a perfect fit perhaps

not sure why it went from I to they / my to them.

connected

Religious book

ditto teachings

that train of thght
