The drawing on my earlier post doesn't look the way I originally configured it, but you can get the idea if you just follow the instructions and draw it out on paper.

that does not work ... that way the dust stays on the shovel

just switch the top two sticks, as if the shovel was turned over. And it did'nt say you couldn't move them at the same time.

OKAY THIS IS CHEATING! THIS IS NO FREAKEN WAY THAT IS THE ANSWER!!! BECAUSE IF IT WAS ONE STICK WOULD NOT BE THERE SO YOU CHEATED!

I don't see how it's cheating. I think it's a good puzzle. The only way you can cheat with these is to do something that you said you couldn't, which makes the solution perfectly good. :)

My gifted teacher gave me a riddle similar to this except it was a goal post and you had to get a quater out of the middle.

Move the matches on each side of the shovels downward; out goes the dust!! I thought that was cute!!!

Turn bottom match into top match or moving it over side matches.

then take handle match & center it over top match.

Move the flat match stick to the right the distance of 1/2 a stick, then take the upper left match and move it to the lower right, making the handle of the shovel now facing up. That was fun. :P

Move slightly the horizontal matchstick to the left ensuring that the left vertical matchstick anchors at the middle then move the right vertical matchstick to the left end of the horizontal stick. An inverted shovel is formed with the dust outside the shovel.
