Ack, for some reason my first post didn't go through.

I enjoyed your site so much I had to register, I found it through the little google gadget thingy.

I actually see 17 squares, unless I missed a rule.

how is it 11 squars I count 8 small 1's and 2 big ones. ...rectangles arn't squares (but squares are rectagles...).

Most likely the one you're overlooking is the bigger square right in the middle, formed by the inner halves of the two other bigger squares.

how about a 3X3 grid in the 1st square and an empty 2nd square.

Thats 14(9+4+1) from grid and 1 from empty ie total 15.

i find this solution more correct than the solutions posted by fosley and maryana because it has a more intuitive shape, though theirs are definitely more ingenious =D

Ok, I've made a image for Muditjain's solution. The green matches were not moved and the tan ones were.

Let me know if i messed up on the image anywhere.

well for 11 squares.... u take to the 2 sticks that r inside the 2 squares and move them 2 the side...so thats 10...then u count the whole thing and its 11!!! the 15 one makes no sense!
