I can take any shape/size paper and crumple it into a ball...VOILA! a single sheet of paper "folded" into a sphere!

But seriously...I think we're starting to get into Map projections here...

There's probably a "more correct" answer, the but Goode Homolosine projection is pretty darn close...

assuming you also had scissors...

 

you could cut the paper in such a way that it looks like a bunch of orange slices put together.

since you want a sphere, you would want the radius of the sphere *pi to be the height of the rectangle, and diameter of the sphere*pi to be the width.

that is the rectangle would be twice as wide as tall.
