Eep! Don't Look Now, But...

Question

This riddle will be easy for a Whovian (Doctor Who fan) if they read the option for normal people. Normal people will find this difficult if they read the option for Whovians. To each their own, so please only read the option written for you.

Count them, yes count them, for many is death.

Make sure you don't blink or it could mean your last breath.
When our friend David met them, he had with him a bride;
Not one, but two - one to go on each side.

It's quiet, so quiet, and creepy as - ARGH!

One, two, three, four and five marks on my arm...

I know I don't have to keep a tally of them,

But it helps to remind me of the Doctor's good friends.

It's just a TV show, I know they're made-up

But I'm still scared to death that they will eat me up.

I mean, they're surrounding me, and now I'm stuck.

Typical, isn't it? It's just my luck.

Eep! No, don't look, or I'm sure that they'll get you;

Well, maybe not get you, but I'm game to bet you
That until you dare to sneak a look down,
You'll never be scared of that thing on the ground!

They'll hide and they'll hide - Yes, they'll hide forever
And the ones that I fear are always together.
Folks think I'm crazy as they just don't get it,
But I watched them kill River, and I'll never forget it.

No matter which option you Whovians choose, if you're a die-hard fan, it'll be pretty easy. Normal people will have to work slightly harder, but it still should be quite easy.

Good luck, and have fun!

Okay, I know there were a lot of red herrings in there. I'm sorry, but I had to make it harder.

"When our friend David met them, he had with him a bride;
Not one, but two - one to go on each side."

This means it couldn't be the Silence, or the Weeping Angels, as the 10th Doctor (played by David Tennant) never faced the Silence (or, for that matter, the Angels). To avoid debate, he at least didn't do so with Donna and River Song (the brides).

"I know I DON'T HAVE TO keep a tally of them,
But it helps to remind me of the Doctor's good friends."

This is just a red herring.

"But I'm still scared to death that they will eat me up."

The Silence and the Weeping Angels don't eat people. That would be messy.

"Count them, yes count them, for many is death.
Make sure you don't blink or it could mean your last breath."

The whole "Count them" part is the major clue for this one, but it tends to also allude to the Silence.
The rest of the couplet is simply a red herring. Although the Vashta Nerada might move when you blink, the Weeping Angels immediately come to mind when the line is read.

"They'll hide and they'll hide - Yes, they'll hide forever
And the ones that I fear are always together."

Where do you find shadows? Hiding. Where do find the Silence? Also hiding. But whatever. Hiding together doesn't really help either, but it makes the Vashta Nerada come to mind, as you aren't going to be afraid of just one shadow.

"But I watched them kill River, and I'll never forget it."

There's a reason this line isn't in the Whovian option.

Congratulations, and thank you for guessing. It's nice to see so many Whovians.

Nice...but I thought River killed herself in order to save the Doctor :unsure:?

Sort of, she more killed the Doctor to save the Doctor. I think we'll just have to trust the writers for now.

Actually, when the Doctor first met River, she died. It was that episode with the library and the shadows and whatnot. She died, both figuratively and literally. It's a sad episode.
