The phone booth was in the middle of a public park. A small tunnel was dug beneath the phone booth , which led outside , directly to the villain's lair or to a spot where the villain's sidekick was waiting. The richman just had to drop the diamond inside the well concealed hole.

He tells the rich guy to deposit in the phone cable, and they pull the cable from outside? seems improbable, but worth a shot ...

Yeah ! Right . But my solution is also very much possible . Because the kidnapper need not come near the rendezvous point .

If it is a sort of a tunnel in which water is circulating back and forth by some mechanism or the tunnel is slanting it may as well reach the kidnapper's place . And to throw the police off the scent , he could have chosen a place nearby the rendezvous point.

Correct pokeru right fisrt time stright out the gate. when i first heard this one it the answer took me by surprise but the elegance of the plan is in it's simplicity. the homing pigoen flies stright off and the kidnapper goes home to wait for a delvivery

i would not do it this way, because someone might kill the pigeon, or somehow take the money. I like grey cells idea.
