Old Boat Puzzle

There is a family consist of Father, Mother, 4 kids (2 boys and 2 girls) standing near a river side. Along with them there is also a Police Officer with a arrested criminal.

The problem is, they all want to cross the river but there is only one boat and following restrictions:

1. Only two people can travel at once

2. Father can not stay with the girls without the presence of the mother

3. Mother can not stay with the boys without the presence of the father

4. The arrested criminal cannot stay with any of the family members

5. Only the Police officer and the parents can drive the boat across the river

Let's see how you can help them to cross the river.

Rules 2 and 3 imply incest so you have the cop call for backup and arrest the parents

But a question regardin the 2 rules, since there's 2 boys and 2 girls. Say if dad were to take a son across at the start, that leaves mom on the shore with 2 girls and a boy, does this cause incest already or is it fine ?

My answer...................

Cop takes the criminal on the boat first and gets his backup to take him away.

then he comes back and takes 2 boys in turn (one each time)

then he takes the father

then he takes the mother

then the 2 girls in turn.
