Good job. 7-13 are the words I had in mind.

Clue 5 needs to be fixed. Unfortunately I had in mind a saying that I heard as a child and I erroneously thought was common parlance. I googled every possible reference to it and came up empty. It must have been colloquial to a very small region and then disused over time. So ... A new Clue 5:

5. Twice bisected, but not quartered.

I will edit the OP to reflect the change.

1. One

2. Not

3. Nod

4. Done

...

14. A/an

15. Ah!!! (for why can't I figure out 5 and 6?), even though I wish it were Ha! (for I've got it :duh: )

3 and 4 are correct; 1 and 2 don't fit.

If 5 seems a contradiction, apply my sig to it.

6 might be a bit obscure or archaic although I occasionally say it.

First of your 14 words is the one I had in mind - meant to say smallest in the clue.

15 is also OK. It fits the clue; I had another word in mind.

So, 1, 2, 5 and 6 to go.

11. Signal to cease 3

12. 100 ergs/gram, or, 57.295 3

First three guesses, to get us started:

DEN

AND (X is true, but Y is true as well)

NAP?

First two are correct.

The third is close, and it fits, but it will lead to dead end with the following clues.

Progress, tho: only 5 and 6 have not been identified.

So that's how you go from 'den' to 'nod'. Doh. As for 5 and 6, the numbers definitely help

;). With the help of an anagrammer and trying all the letters with 'cone' starting with a....6 should be 'nonce' (I might have heard of word somewhere...maybe...but I definitely would not have recalled it). So that leaves 5 as logically either an anagram of 'none' or 'once'. Not many good choices. I'm going to guess 'none' due to the bonanova's hint about the contradictory nature of the clue?

6 is correct. I've heard the phrase "for the nonce" to mean "for now".

You have 5 [it's not "none"] if one of a word's anagrams is the word itself.

Haha, I get it...finally...the word 'twice' bisected...nice ;P

And here I was considering non-euclidean geometries...

So the phrase is "Once is half overdone"?

"But not" was meant to nudge your thinking away from geometry and just bisect "twice.'

The actual phrase I had heard was "Once effective, twice overdone." which applies variously to different situations,

The original clue of "half overdone" was flawed anyway, as I think about it now.

According to that phrase, half overdone would be a clue for effective, not for once.

Nice going.

Don't be silly...some of us never get away from math in our thinking...;P

Thanks for the exercise, it was fun. :)
