Question

On the planet Phosphoron there are beings of three skin colors,

red, green, and blue. Three beings, Mr. Red, Mr. Green, and

Mr. Blue were discussing the beauty that this variety gives to

Phosphoron.

"I think it's interesting," says Mr. Red, "that none of the

three of us has the skin color that our names would suggest."

"Who the heck cares?" replies the fellow with green skin.

What color skin does Mr. Green have?

Am I reading the same problem as you all?

I'd think that

Blue.

Sure the planet has beings of three colors. I got that. But the problem does NOT say that our Misters Red, Green and Blue are different colors. I follow j green's reasoning right up to the "Therefore" I think that Mr Green can be either Red or Blue and to settle the issue, let's look at the content of Mr Blue's reply: 'Who cares?' I think he says this because while Misters Red and Green each look out to the other two and see 'variety' of color (blue and green), Mr Blue looks to the other two and sees no variety: just two blue beings yapping about variety and beauty that Mr Blue doesn't experience in this context. Or maybe I'm reading into this too much.

Mr. Red can either blue or green for skin Color. But person with green color skin is a different guy. So Mr. Red must have blue as his skin color.

Then person with green skin must be named Mr. Blue.

That leaves the blue guy to be Mr. Green

I neglected to add that the three beings have different skin colors.

But, the smart people on the Den somehow always catch my omissions.

Thanks, gadaju, for pointing out that the problem, as stated, has

two possible answers. I also quite shocked that Mr. Green himself

(j.green) answered the question about Mr. Green! What a coincidence!

Thank you all for taking an interest in this problem.

Okay, if all three have different skin colors and those colors do not match their names Mr. Green has to have red skin. Here is why I think so... Mr. Red mentions that it is interesting that their skin colors do not match their names and then the person with green skin asks "so what". Mr. Green cannot have green skin and Mr. Red cannot have red skin. Mr. Blue is the one with green skin meaning Mr. Red has blue skin and Mr. Green has red skin.

Or Mr. Red has multiple personalities and he is the one with green skin and he questioned himself...

Red.....Mr Red has Blue Skin coulor as he can have bue or green and Green belongs to his fellow.

So Mr Green can't have Green.....remaining is Red ...

That is "Red"

There were two possibilities that Mr. Green can be blue/red:

1. If Mr. Red was green, then Mr. Green will have to be blue and Mr. Blue will have to be red

2. If Mr. Red was blue, then Mr. Green will have to be red and Mr. Blue will have to be green.

But since the fellow with the green skin is not Mr. Red (since he opposes what Mr. Red says) and definitely not Mr. Green, then he can only be Mr. Blue...seeing that Mr. Blue is green then Mr. Green is Red and Mr. Red is blue.

There can be 2 possibilities:

Person(Skin)

1.

Mr RED(Green)

Mr GREEN(Blue)

Mr BLUE(Red)

or 2.

Mr RED(Blue)

Mr GREEN(Red)

Mr BLUE(Green)

-------------------------------------

SInce, Mr RED has spoken line 1 and the person with Green skin has spoken line 2. If, both the lines have been spoken by different person, then

Mr RED(Green) is not a correct option.

So, ruling out option 1, we are left with option 2

Hence, Mr Green is having RED colour skin.
