How about this:

Remove the lower left vertical line from 8 and put it under the 1 on 14.

So now you have 5 + 9 = 14

i think the poster made a mistake, there should be two sticks on the 1 at the end next to the 4 instead of one stick.

Remove the vertical line from the plus sign and put it between the 1 and 4 as a subtraction sign so you get 5-8 = 1-4.

Also, I think the solution is to pick top horizontal stick of 5 and place it at left-bottom vertically. It will become 6+8 = 14

i think that the puzzle should be solved by following method

Why not 5 + 8 [does not equal] 4? I.e., move the "1" from 14 to the "equal" sign, to make it "not equal" and "4".

Why not leave the numbers as they are and turn the '=' into a '<' ?

Move the top of the 5 down to make it a 6, then you would have 6 + 8 = 14

Make the top of the = sign to be on an angle to a < sign then you would have 5 + 8 < 14

As per OP, you can move only 1 matchstick. To make a real "<" symbol, you will have to move two.
