haya 1st riddle is...........................

When John was six years old he hammered a nail into his favorite tree to mark his height. Ten years later at age sixteen, John returned to see how much higher the nail was. If the tree grew by five centimeters each year, how much higher would the nail be?

The nail would be know higher because a tree grows from the top not the base.

Tree grows upwards and outwards, initially from meristematic tissue (apical meristem) and xylem and phloem under the bark

If the tree is on the level and straight, then it's in the same place. Tree on un even ground would depend on exactly where the nail was placed. So it could be higher or lower depending on the rate of growth, depending on the climate, depending on hardwood/softwood, ring porus or semi-ring porus or diffuse porus I think the third one is.

It grew in height or girth or both ???

Probably been cut down by now anyway!

I agree a tree does grow outward and upward at the top.
