Question

most parachutes have holes in them, or else they would swing wildly from side to side.

After jmping of an ariplane 5000 feet high or so, a man deploys his parachute. When he looks up, however, he notices a large hole in his parachute. However, he landed on land safely, with no assistance or help whatsoever, without using his reserve chute. How is that possible?

His parachute deployed and he landed in a tree; once he was in the tree he looked up to see a hole now in his parachute (from the tree). He then cut himself loose and landed safely on the ground
