Question

Source page with contest info

Solve this system of equations and find the "key" to discover the new company name. Be the first to find it and you win $10,000. Also, to get the $10,000 you need to sign a nondisclosure agreement. So if you do find the answer... I guess you shouldn't post it.

equation.jpg

Solution to the system of equations:

omega cancels out, could be anything -- I assume it is a main part of the "key"

beta=68 (2,2,17)<-prime factors

delta=553 (7,79)

psi=158 (2,79)

mu=231 (3,7,11)

Number of occurrences of each letter:

omega:11

beta:6

delta:7

psi:5

mu:8

5,6,7,8...but don't know if it means something.

There are 11 sets of parenthesis. Most parenthesis contain omegas, but some do not. There are duplicate coefficients for the omegas within the parenthesis, so it doesn't seem to be used to order them.

Obviously, there are 4 equations and each has 3 lines. There may be something to do with the first number listed on each line, or the number right outside parenthesis.

Answer may require knowledge of ascii codes, or it may simply be 1-26 corresponding to letters. It may use the Greek alphabet's corresponding letters.

Yeah, most of what I got is speculation...

all I see here is a 4 equations system with 5 unknown variables... One equation is missing to be able to solve the system, unless we can make some assumption about one of these variables...

EventHorizon, good analysis so far. Nothing jumps out at me either, except for a plethora of speculations.

the character you refer to as psi is actually a handwritten version of phi. Not sure it matters, unless it it has something to do with the Greek letters themselves.

Looks like an IP address to me, except delta is too big for that. I tried switching delta's primes in place of it and found one website that is not the right one I am sure. Reiss Industries. And just subtracting 255 twice or 256 twice gave unused IP's. And for IP, I put the numbers in alpha order, beta.delta.mu.phi, and also tried beta.delta.phi.mu since phi might mean letter f. For delta I tried 7, 79, 41, 42, 43. I am pretty sure this is on the right track since how else can you get a website from this other than an IP addy? The problem is that dang delta makes no sense. And yes, I also tried 553 for delta which failed as it should. And I tried tossing delta out entirely and using 0 for omega as the last number. no luck. No luck using 0 for delta either. Tricky.

I got the following answers :

Beta 68.19801

Phi 157.7041

mu 231.091

delta 553.0047612

But I do not know how to proceed further to decipher the name of company. Any help ?

I reach to (ebay)...am I right??

by giving (a)to mu,((b) to phi,(y) to omega,(d) to delta,and (e)to beta

taking the first and second equations,by adding them together we will have:

80e+20b-22a-40y= 797

by removing the numbers,we will get:

ebay

It's not ebay, simply because eBay exists and the person who made this contest wouldn't name his new company eBay.

From the contest page, someone has won the $10,000. Once they release more information, I'll update the thread. I'd like a copy of the key so I can try and solve the puzzle myself. Also, where the key was found would be interesting.
