As fabpig said, this logic doesn't work. Just because two words share a letter doesn't mean that letter is in the original word. You need to show why F and L can't be right or why T and W can't. For example, let's pretend that OWE-1 (It isn't but for the example. . .). ONE-0. There are a few ways you can show you proof.

1. Red lettering

OWE - 1

ONE - 0

You show that because ONE-0, the O and E, which are in the same position in OWE cannot score. That leaves W as the only letter that can score.

2. Statement of change.

The only change between OWE and ONE is the W-->N. Since there is a score change, from 1-->0, W is second.

3. Capital lettering

OWE

OnE-0 (showing that O and E can't score because ONE-0

I'm sure there are other ways of proving letters but I think these three are the most common.
