[spoiler=Almost definitely not correct :P]I'm going to think outside the box and say Pacman :D He sweeps accross the screen, sort of, and without the cherries he can die. Not sure about the cutting part though?

Aww now you have me intrigued ! I was going to guess again with something along the lines of a blackjack dealer/card player? This would be more relevant to somewhere such as America (Vegas) though would it not? I wonder what my area has to offer :P

Sweep and cut are both types of shots in cricket (there are more but I did not use them all for the sake of the rhyme.)

And the cricket ball is often referred to as a cherry,and if the batsmen misses the ball he COULD be out - loose his life.
