Two fathers and two sons, or two mothers and daughters works, but you can't realistically be a child and the parent of a child capable of walking.

Of course you can realistically be a child and a parent at the same time! In fact, all parents fall into this category. If the OP had said, "two *adults* and two children", you might have a point, because in that context "child" implies their age. But when referring to a parent/child relationship, "child" implies offspring.

it might as well be 2 adults and 3 children, since the Grandfather/grandmother also falls under the category of being a child.
