There were two golfers. The first one scored a total of 69. The other one scored a total of 72. The golfer that scored 72 won, though.

How can this be?

The golfer with the score of 69 quit before the end of the game thus losing.

I'm thinking they were in 2 different 4-somes and didn't compete against each other; the second golfer had the best score in his foursome.
