Did the dog fetch a stick of dynamite which exploded and killed them both?

As for why there was a stick of dynamite, perhaps there was a stump or rock needing blasting, or the man was a pyromaniac?

No, and that's the most interesting part of the puzzle. :)

Did the man throw or place the dynamite before the dog fetched it?

Was it fetched from the field?

Was it fetched from a road or path near the field?

Was it fetched from a vehicle, either under or in or on the vehicle?

Was it fetched from a place where blasting takes place?

Was it fetched from an ice covered pond/lake?

Was the man named Jamie or Adam? :P

To re-cap, the man threw the stick of dynamite and ran in the opposite direction. Unfortunately the dog fetched the 'stick', ran after the man and blew them both up. Correct?

So, the next puzzle is why did he have a stick of dynamite!? Is his occupation important?

Was he in the military?

Was the dog a working dog? ie. worked with the man in his job?

Did he throw the dynamite into the river/lake to kill/stun fish because he was a lazy/greedy fisherman?

Yes

Bingo

He used to kill fishes in the pond using dynamite blasts. One day, he happened to take his dog with him, who fetched the dynamite stick as soon as the man threw it.

The fisherman ran into the fields to save his life, but the dog caught up with him just in time. :(
