Question

Once upon a time , there was a round castle which in lived a king, a queen and their son. One day the son was murdered. The king went to investigate.

First, he went to the royal chefs. "Did you kill the prince?" the king asked - "We were busy all day making food, so how can it be us?" answered the royal chefs...

The king went on.

Then, he went to the servants. "Did you kill the prince?" the king asked - "We were busy all day fulfilling your will, so how can it be us?" answered the servants...

The king went on.

Next, he went to the cleaning men. "Did you kill the prince?" the king asked - "We were busy all day cleaning each corner of the kingdom , so how can it be me?" answered the cleaner...

The king went on.

Lastly, he went to the knights. "Did you kill the prince?" the king asked - "We were busy all day fighting and protecting the kingdom, so how can it be us?" answered the royal chefs...

So who is the killer?

pay close attention to each suspect's response

Maybe OP could give us a hint, as we all seem to be getting nowhere, and seem to be stuck.

As I see it, there are some possible answers.

well heres a hint for the one i meant...

Is a castle a kingdom?

But we've already covered this. Check my post #5 and subsequent responses.

Why ask a goup of people if they did it, rather than an individual?

Perhaps it was the Kng or the Queen,

I am still on my original post - the cleaners. or a the one who answered for the cleaners.

It seems like the cleaner was so nervous after killing the prince, he immediately suspected the King was singling out him specifically. Everyone else answered "We were too busy..........so how could it be us?" Whilst one cleaner answered "We were too busy....so how could it be me?".

I'm probably wrong, aren't i?

Nice try, but we already covered the typos in earlier posts, and the OP said he made mistakes, and that it was supposed to be us.

I am changing my mind now  ..... The knights assassinated the prince. They were busy hiding secrets that they made the royal chefs answer to the king's questions on behalf of them. But I am not sure if the king notices this ...

Nice try, but we already covered this with OP. He said it was a typo and was supposed to be knights answering :P

The answer is the cleaning men. It is a round catsle, which means there are no corners, and since their response was "WE were cleaning the corners of the house..." it had to be them because their answer was not true. :D

The CLEANERS.

Maybe their statement that they were cleaning refers to CLEANING THE BONES OF THE PRINCE. ;)

But one thing worries me.Why would a group of people kill him? I mean , why not just one person.Definitely with proper planning this can be done.

This brings a very old joke while I was a kid (5 or 6 years old) to memory.

The puzzle was "How do you keep a stupid person busy?"

Answer:

Ask him to find the corner in a circular room.

OR: Write 'PTO" (please turn over) on both sides of a blank page.

I know it is very demeaning, but those days, back in the 70s, it was not considered a hurtful joke.

Sorry, I wasn't around to response... well here is the solution!

itachi_san already covered it, the cleaning men said they cleaned the corners of the KINGDOM, when they were supposed to clean the CASTLE. So,they did it. However there are more logical solutions.

It could be their job to clean the kingdom... It never said anything about them being castle cleaners.
