Question

A woman was dying. The womans husband asked a doctor to do an operation as quickly as possible. The docter said that he had to pay for the operation if it failed, and if it was succesful. It turned out that the man didnt have to pay for the operation. How is this possible?

But the OP says ... the man didnt have to pay for the operation. With that answer, you ask "what operation"?

the operation that didn't take place, but was scheduled. If someone tells me they are going to bake cookies and I tell them I'll eat one, but they never end up baking the cookies, it's not wrong to say "I didn't eat one of your cookies".

Also, the riddle says "The docter said that he had to pay for the opeartion if it failed,...". Perhaps the antecedent of "he" is "docter", so the doctor paid for it for some reason. Later on the riddle says "that the man didn't have to pay". eh, eh?

Alternatively, the man himself dropped dead before paying for the operation? I mean, I suppose they can sue your estate and all that, but that's being a bit picky, isn't it?
