I felt that the point of the riddle was to only take one trip.

If this really is the case then the farmer can take the cabbage and all three would be on the other side safely.

If the farmer takes the cabbage then the goat would swim across trying to eat it and the wolf would swim across chasing after the goat. = )

- take the she-goat over to side B

- go back to side A

- take the cabbage to side B

- bring the she-goat back to side A

- take the wolf to side B

- go back to side A

- take the she-goat to side B

- go home.

well first he takes the she-goat to the other side, then he returns empty; he takes the cabbage to where the goat is, for he takes the goat back to where the wolf is and leave it there taking the wolf, which doesn't eat cabbage, to the other side where the cabbage is, and he returns empty to pick up the goat again and take it to where the wolf is with the cabbage...that's how you do it.....................:blush:

What kind of market is that where farmers buy wolves?

I am not asking what use farmer has for a wolf who craves his livestock.

But what kind of wolf guards cabbage patiently while his she-goat is sailing away? Wouldn't wolf go scouting for another she-goat?

Can wolf row?

This puzzle is more puzzling than it initially seems.

The farmer could first take the she-goat to side B. Then go to side A and pick up the wolf. Drop the wolf off at side B and pick up the she-goat. Take she-goat back to side A and pick up the cabbage. Take cabbage to side B and return to side A, pick up she-goat, return to side B. All are across safely!

Take the she-goat into the boat and go to other side, leave the she-goat there and cross the river again. This time bring the wolf to other side of the river but let the she-goat jump into the boat first before leaving the wolf there. Then go back again to other side with your she-goat and get the cabbage, put the cababge first to the boat and leave the she-goat to its original place. Bring the cabbage to the other side, this time you already brought two things , the wolf and the cabagge, in which the wolf cannot eat the cabbage. Again go back to other side to get the last thing which is the she-goat and bring to other side of the river. They are now complete without being eaten!
