JFK's 1961 address to Congress set a goal of landing a man on the moon by the end of the decade.

Apollo - Greek god of the sun. Saturn rockets used for launch - Saturn, Roman god of agriculture & harvest.

Six Apollo missions allowed 12 men to walk on the surface of the moon.

Remaining Apollo missions were cancelled after the Apollo 17 mission.
