There are a lot more, but I can't think of them.. They're all amazing books.

The Gideon Trilogy:

Anything by Mercedes Lackey, but especially her Valdemar & 500 Kingdoms books

Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series

Sharon Shinn has some great YA books

Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising series

Suzanne Collins's Hunger Games books are interesting

Robin McKinley's books, if you don't want a series

Diana Wynne Jones - but fair warning, Howl's Moving Castle (the book) is nothing like the movie (but I adore both)

Maria V. Snyder has some fun reads

As previously stated, if you need more, let me know! :) I'm happy to feed others bibliophile addictions. ;)

Any Agatha Christie staring Hercule Poirot or Mrs. Marple. (Or even without them. I recommend Ten Little Indians/And Then There Were None).

Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer is good.

The Hitchhiker Trilogy by Douglas Adams:

1: The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy

2: The Restaurant At The End Of The Universe

3: Life, The Universe, And Everything

4: Mostly Harmless

5: So Long And Thanks For All The Fish

This.

When you finsih that, move on the the Ender's Game series. They aren't related, but read the former first because everyone needs to understand the awesomeness of my e-hubby Zaphod Beeblebrox.

I don't have any specific recommendations (other than seconding the outstanding advice to read The Hitchhiker's Guide [and you might as well follow that up with the Dirk Gently series] by Douglas Adams) but thought you might find this site useful: FictFact. I just found the site a short while ago but it seems to do a good job of taking a series name (e.g., 'Twilight' or 'The Earth's Children') and showing all the books in that series. And here's a link to their 100 most popular YA series. 100 Most Popular Young Adult Series. Hope this helps.

I know this is a little late, but The Name of the Wind is an epic fantasy series by Patrick Rothfuss. The second book is set to release in March. He's spent a lot of time on world development and shows it to you without boring you with countless details. It's a little hokey in places, but the overall story is pretty gripping. If you don't believe me, read the back cover. It still gives me chills.
