Question

Below is code. See if you can figure out what should replace the ?s.

1=2

2=5

3=?

4=?

5=5

6=6

7=?

8=7

9=?

0=6

An older, cheaper calculator may help you solve this, while a newer, graphing calculator will not.

Each number is equal to the number of segments it takes to make it on an older, digital readout. For example, the number 1 is made of 2 segments. The number 9 is made of 6 segments. The number 8 has the most of any single-digit number because it uses all 7 segments. Six around the outside and the one in the middle.

The completed table would read:

1=2

2=5

3=5

4=4

5=5

6=6

7=3

8=7

9=6

0=6

whats a segment......

A segment is one of the little sticks that makes up older digital displays:

-

_|

|_

This is a digital "2" - It is made of 5 segments - each side of the number is a segment.
