REEDS

Books scored 0 so we know S is not last letter

Both Reads and Reams score 1 so it is not M or D for second to last letter

Both Beams and Reams score one so we know the first letter is not B or R

So either the 2nd or third letter must be correct

if REEDS scores 2 Both 2nd and 3rd letter are E as the only thing that has changed is the A in READS

if REEDS scores 1 Second letter is E as we have changed the A to E with no effect

if REEDS scores 0 A is the third letter because it is the only letter we have changed from READS

"Both Beams and Reams score one so we know the first letter is not B or R"

The first word was BEANS not BEAMS. So the proof for REEDS = 1 is incorrect since the word could be R--N- and still score the way it did.

-----

Being the evil ninja that I am... ROADS

If ROADS = 0 then -E--- since E=>O is the only change from READS = 1
