Now I'm gonna assume that "crunch" is somehow related to agriculture and say the answer is urbanization. Wow, what a crazy analysis I just did. Shouldn't even hit "post", but I can't help myself. How about that: crunch can mean to chew while making a lot of noise, so could you have used it in the sense of something predatory?
