All verbs have about the same meaning: "leave", and sugar/oxygen makers seems to be referring to plants. Now I'm gonna assume that "crunch" is somehow related to agriculture and say the answer is urbanization. Wow, what a crazy analysis I just did. Shouldn't even hit "post", but I can't help myself.

Then it's all about the meaning of crunch in the context. Too bad there are dozens of meanings. How about that: crunch can mean to chew while making a lot of noise, so could you have used it in the sense of something predatory? And since the riddle tells you to stop doing it, could it be some protest like greenpeace? Yet another crazy analysis.

Wow, I was closer than I thought. I asked my friend at school this morning and this was one of the answers he gave me, though I don't think he used that logic.
