Are you sure it's supposed to be 9 letters instead of 6. The OP might have meant for "--" to be one letter since it is the width of one.

Well, since the very beginning of the riddle it is stated to be a 9 letter English word... Look:

It's an nine letter english word

--U--E--L

Clues:

Richman keeps it in his pocket;

Poorman throws it away ;

Kids like to eat it;

Guess the word and reply

And exactly what on Earth tipped to use an Indian word???

Hmmm...

I couldn't get it. I eventually resorted to cheating and used a crossword engine to find all the qualified English words (including compound words) that would fit the pattern. There were ten (10) matches (see spoiler). None of which, I don't think, are appropriate as an answer for the riddle.

I'm stumped.

BLUE DEVIL

EQUIPEDAL

FLUORENYL

GRUDGEFUL

HAUSSE-COL

LOUD PEDAL

ROUNCEVAL

SOURCEFUL

TRUE LEVEL

UEUETEOTL

bluepearl

I think I have heard this one before, however, not sure if this was the correct answer.

Rich man understands the value, poor man does not. Kid's think it is candy.....that's my best guess with the parameters given
