Too Long For The Short Of It

Question

The feckless travelling salesmen, received a beating sound

For gods sake they seem to be, jumping as if for joy

But careless public speakers, take the icing on the cake

For skirting around the issues, those more fair simply employ.

There to clean up the mess, but nursing not their wounds

Struggling to keep their heads up, for it's their final song

The skein takes flight unwinding, as they are prone to do

And the value of silence resounds in their ears, hanging on so long.

Could be another option for, the rude whistleblowing

As even the gossipy old biddies may, open with a kiss

Then slowly but finally a winner of, some simple sign of peace

For a family that plays together, what would comes from this?

The state of affairs since the last presidential election.

hmm, well thought out, after rereading I do see where a political commentary would fit in parts. not it though.

milk?

Can't be.

aha, there's a piece.

I realize this one seems extremely obscure but in this case it is necessary in order to provide any challenge. After correctly interpreting a couple of clues, the rest will fall into place, I guarantee.

EDIT: fixed spelling
