A pendulum is basically the heart of a grandfather clock, prized heirlooms in many families, that measure out the minutes and hours of life. Pendulums rely on gravity for their function. Another type is the medieval torture device, as employed by Poe’s raving mad villain played by Vincent Price in the hit movie “The Pit and the Pendulum.” The pendulum is a horrific device for dispatching its victims, meant to prolong the fear of an inevitable and slow death by slicing ones torso in half. pendulum?
