Haven't gotten the answer I was looking for yet.

As a hint, the letters found in each word matter, but the frequency, pronunciation, capitalization, and sequential order of the letters are of no consequence.

1) All the words have a prime number of vowels and consonants, except scared, which has four consonants.

2) The difference in the number of vowels and consonants in each word is a multiple of three, except for scared.

I would consider both of these answers as observing the frequency of letters. My answer's not quite as obscure (at least in my mind it's not).

homily, as it's the only one that doesn't start with a stand alone 4-letter word:

EAST er

JUMP ing

PUMP kin

SCAR ed

Unfortunately, this isn't it. But that answer seems better than the one I'd intended.
