you have two cadles

both burn in 60 minutes

using those two candles measure 45 minutes

Assuming either can be oriented into a position where they lay opposite.

(IE: (x = flame, o = body, .. = filler)

Then light both candles at the same time. When they reach midway, (that means the top of the candle are at the same position) Move them back to the position setup in the first place. When they reach halfway again it will 45 minutes.

Light candle 1 normally and light candle 2 at both ends.

In 30 minutes, candle 2 will be completely burned.

At that time light the other end of candle 1.

Fifteen minutes later candle 1 will be burned completely.

That's 45 minutes.
