Question

Stretch out thy neck for the widow's knife,

Twist not away from thy gradu'l path.

When it has finished, there will be strife.

(As well, a mark-ed absence of wrath!)

distilling alcohol?

Stretch out thy neck for the widow's knife, - Cutting the grain

Twist not away from thy gradu'l path. - looping through the copper tubing

When it has finished, there will be strife. - I can't come up with an explanation for the strife.

(As well, a mark-ed absence of wrath!) - wrath = anger, abesence of wrath = cheer, people say "cheers" before drinking the alcohol??

Opening a champagne bottle?

No, it isn't that simple.

@All: There are a couple 'key' words that aren't being well-noticed, btw.

(champagne bottles don't need corkscrews...my brain feels like mashed potatoe on this one...not thinking clearly

Not sure if you need to go further out or reel it back in, but that isn't it either.

you don't ever use a bottle opener (corkscrew) on champagne, because you could cause an injury if the corkscrew were to shoot out with the cork due to expelling the gas (pressure). You remove the cage and gently twist & pull the cork until the pressure allows it to 'pop' easily out.

-_- See, the Den is quite educational! ;)

No, it's not that process.

Does it have anything to do with the Grapes of Wrath?

No it doesn't.

Seems like many of the responses haven't been making much of the "widow" clue so far...

Survivors deal with posthumous strife

But should not stew in anger this day.

The widow mourns the end of his life

So she prepares a floral bouquet.

This particular part is quite right, but the rest, I'm afraid, sheds no light. ;)
