Question

I have decided to make this a tad bit more complicated than the previous mafia with the introduction of 2 slightly different roles. It is also a small experiment for me.

Newer players are welcomed, as well as experienced ones. I can see this mafia ending around N4, if not before.

Feedback would be great. Since we'll start this after Ye Olde Mafia II, there's a lot of time and room for improvement.

Doomed

You find yourself waking up in a cryo-chamber. The system recognized the electromagnetic signals of your brain and slowly increased the temperature of the chamber and started pumping in a gaseous mixture that resembled that of the atmosphere. Blinking every so often, your eyes began to adjust to light again after years of being in slumber. You slowly regained your other senses as the computer initiated a series of programs to determine the functionality of you as a whole.

After passing the series of small tests, you heard the locks disengaging. The door slid open and you stepped into a small room with nothing other than a change of clothes and an exit. You put them on and left the room into a long passageway. As you walked down the passageway, you saw similar rooms with other cryo-preserved humans. You shuddered to think that you spent the last … How many years have it been?

The answer soon presented itself as you exit the long passageway. You entered a small chamber with a chair and a monitor screen. Printed on the screen are the words “Year 99PA.”

‘99PA?’

The fear of living in an uncertain future finally caught up, you started wondering what is in store for you. You sat down on the chair and the walls flickered.

“Welcome to the year 99PA. In your calendar, it would be year 3192AD.”

‘I have been sleeping for more than a thousand years?’ you wondered.

“It is now 99 years post-apocalypse.”

Over the next 30 minutes, you were given a brief history of what happened in the past thousand years. The Earth had been reduced to a toxic wasteland by wars and the only way humans could sustain themselves is by building domes that regulate their internal environment to mimic Earth before the apocalypse.

The chamber opened and you left the building. You walked into a metropolitan of high-tech buildings and thousands of people going about doing their own business. Looking up into the sky, you saw the glass dome, the dome which you are destined to live in for the remainder of this lifetime.

Welcome to the future.

Roles & Factions:

Cyber-Criminals

Chooses a player to kill once every night. Wins by being the last faction standing.

Mastermind: Able to orchestrate elaborate schemes behind peoples’ backs, he will appear as an [innocent] when spied upon, unless he is blocked the same night he was spied on.

Hacker: A capable hacker, he is able to hack into the city mainframe and issue orders to place a player in house arrest, blocking the player’s action for a night. May target the same player two nights in a row.

Citizens

Wins by being the last faction standing.

Doctor: She can save one player every night. May not target the same player two nights in a row.

Enforcer: He can block a player from acting every night. May not target the same player two nights in a row.

Information Analyst: She can look up a player’s files and learn the player’s faction.

Sentry: If she is killed, will reveal the role of the killer in the night post. Only once throughout the game, may sacrifice self to kill one player. The Sentry's role will be made public if she is killed/died with her victim.

Bio-Engineer: Every night, PMs the role with a dead player and a role match-up. Also included in the PM will be the target for the night. If the RID is correct (confirmation will be sent at the end of the night), he will perform the action of the dead player on his target.

Credit: UR and CL.

College Graduate: He can choose a player every night to party with. The player will lose his/her vote the following day. He will join the cyber-criminals and gain BTSC if the Hacker targets him. When spied will appear as [Cyber-Criminal] if he is converted.

Informant Network

Wins by completing individual win-con or by being the last faction standing.

Information Monger: On odd nights may choose to track a player and learn his/her target. On top of that, every night, sends the host a list of player and role ID matchups. If all matchups are correct, the Information Monger wins. If not, he will only be told the number of matchups he has correct, but not which ones.

Only once in game, may hire an assassin from his network and RID kill a player, during the day or night cycle. This kill cannot be blocked.

When spied will appear as [innocent], unless blocked. If blocked on the same night he is being spied on, will appear as [Cyber-Criminal].

***

Gameplay Mechanics:

1. Tie lynches will result in the lynch of all players who tied.

2. Blocks always prevail. All blocks will be calculated to giving the least amount of actions.

3. Beyond that, all other actions are calculated to giving the most amount of deaths.

4. Day and Night cycles are 24 hours, Nights may end earlier if I get all the actions in.

5. Have fun.

Night 2: The Hacker Hacks

Unknown Location: 2000 Hours.

Cold sweat ran down the Hacker’s forehead as he considered his options. The Mastermind, the one who can go under the covers and convince the people that they should rule the city is gone. The plan has gone awry and he has two choices: finish it or give up.

The treasure at the end of the tunnel proved too much a temptation to resist.

“Let’s finish this,” he said with determination. He sat down by his terminal, where three computers were hooked to and started typing away.

***

Road to the Reservoir: 2000 Hours.

The computer mainframe generated a pleasant night with cooling winds blowing, and stars shining brightly in a cloudless sky. CP put on her windbreaker and walked towards the reservoir. As she turned the street that went up the mountain, she gasped. The Enforcer was waiting for her.

“We need to talk.”

***

The Streets: 2015 Hours.

Derrai crossed the street to the transit station. No one noticed him disappear into a gutter that suddenly slid open. No one heard Derrai’s scream as he shot down the garbage chute into the Underground Sewage. Derrai was shot into putrid water. He held his breath and swam up to the surface. Looking around, he noticed the dim lights that lit the maintenance platforms. He swam towards them and climbed up.

“What in the name of the Mainframe?”

***

Road to the Reservoir: 2030 Hours

“Please go home,” said the Enforcer. CP sighed. A waste of a good night. She smiled. She would sneak out later in the night. She turned around and headed home.

***

Underground Sewage: 2100 Hours

The monitor read Exit. Derrai sighed. The signs have been making him walk for at least half an hour and he seemed to have gone deeper underground. Maybe the darkness and enclosure was messing with his sense of direction. He opened the door and walked into a … room?

The doors shut behind him and he heard the locks engaging. Lights turned on and he found himself trapped in a room with churning gear mechanisms on both ends with metal teeth that would hack and grind anything in that room into mush. And that anything is Derrai. The gears started turning and the sides closed into Derrai.

***

CP’s House: 2105 Hours.

CP went home and slid her card to open the door, sending a signal to the Enforcer that she is home. She waited for 15 minutes and tried to leave the house again. Except that the locks will not disengage.

“What?”

***

Unknown Location: 2110 Hours

The Hacker smiled as he looked on the middle screen. On one side, was CP stuck in her house. The other, was Derrai being hacked into pieces and ground into juice.

One step closer to the goal.

Guys. Think about what happened night 1, actually, what didn't happen. Whoever is the Enforcer got lucky.

Come on guys, we have a chance to take out the hacker...leaving only one night kill left!

I'm hoping that the Analyst got my hint and can back me up here...but think about what scsw said about blocking actions, and what didn't happen on night 1, and who targeted whom. That should be enough information to show you that I'm right about slick.

Two more points to all the goodies

1) DON'T REVEAL your role, as that is the indie win con

2) The enforcer and analyst are going to have to get together somehow and target the same person to get enough information to find the indie...the indie will only be revealed as a baddie if s/he is blocked at the same time the analyst spies him/her...

Correct! I 've been thinking for quite some time and I now seem to be the perfect scapegoat to release you from death. Hackers like to place their blame on goodies so, now I need to change my vote with that reason alone.tongue.gif

Don't worry folks, This could be the final win!thumbsup.gif

Yup - I, as a goodie, am trying to kill you, a baddie.

Block actions revealed.

Night 1: Enforcer blocked slick.

Night 1: No block from the hacker.

Ergo, slick is the hacker.

I hope the analyst saw this as well (and got my hint about it) and can back me up (provided CP isn't the analyst).

scsw, I think I asked this but forgot (if i asked and/or what the answer is)

For the indie's RID kill:

1) is it limited to 1 attempt or 1 success?

2) are unsuccessful attempt made public?

3) is there any punishment for an unsuccessful attempt?

Slick I really do believe you, and tpaxatb needs to go. I really think he is the Hacker and I am siding with you. He is either the indie or the hacker...both of which we need to get rid of ASAP

looking at what you all have said, gotta go with voting for tpaxatb.

I sure was a busy gal last night, not. My dance card was full. Not like my action would have done anything.

Grrr.

I'm neither the indie or the hacker.

If i were the indie, I would have RID killed slick already.

I'll give you all a hint about my role, and how I am 100% positive that slick is the hacker. If I'm RID killed by the indie because of it, good luck guys.

Framm's death changed how I interpreted the result of my Night 1 action.

One more thing...

I really cannot see anything that is making people believe slick over me. I have given my reasons, and the logic behind them. I was suspicious of slick since the first night's post due to how the blocks worked out. All slick has done is obfuscate the truth, not giving any reason at all for his VERY premature vote of Rir, and a retaliation vote against me, but...no REASON; no DEFENSE.

We have no night kill left, as Framm is dead. The kills left are slick (nightly), and the indie (1 unblockable RID kill). The indie's got it made.

The mechanics of this game will be different from the rest that I've hosted.

Gameplay Mechanics:

1. Actions are calculated to bring about the most deaths in game.

2. A tie lynch will result in a no lynch.

3. You may reveal roles, afterall, who's to say you're lying or not.

4. Players bringing in metagame elements will result in an immediate ... termination.

5. Blocks are revealed. Spying attempts are not revealed.

6. Players that are not having fun should grab a drink and loosen up. ;)

Funny that I never paid this attention before... it's actually kind of useful

Anyway, I'm curious scsw, what do you mean by players bringing in metagame elements?

Metagame elements are elements that are outside of gameplay, like looking at the user board and saying what time the user came in and such. A more serious offense is quoting directly what the host PMed the player. Things like that.

Well, I don't think i'll be here much longer (on the board [busy] or in the game [grr]). I put up as much a defense as I could - here's to hoping that someone changes their vote to slick. If I die before I wake - well here's some suggestions

Suggestions for goodies on the night:

Block slick

Lynch slick

Pray the indie was Derrai - you'll have a tough time finding him. You can't stop his RID kill. Remember, the indie wincon is to match all roles or be last man standing, so don't give yourselves away!

Good night and good luck!

Here is the updated roster. Haven't seen many people talking and I seriously think we have tpaxatb after his defense. If not then it will end after Night 3 if I play my action right
