no I don't think so.

@ Wilson and hambone seems to have some inkling, what does it mean? "stoned to the gills"? "high as a kite"? cant come up with another reference.

a bridge to nowhere

chess being planks of a bridge.

guess that one works, too. havent come across that one is some time...

5. chess heavenward- Castles in the air?

6. heavenward to deeply inhale- Long winded?

Catch y'all later!

more to the point at hand (running on empty re the idioms, had to mix it up). nice work.

or as Scooby Doo might say... Rook up to?

Then-- to deeply inhale = take it all in?

chess heavenward (to) = a bridge to nowhere

that gives answers for all with a few valid replacements for a couple I had. should we continue?

Hole in the wall?

I would have thought one of us guessed that but I don't have time before work to read through the whole thread again.

Word for word what I had. Good job you two (hambone).

You all have translated all of mine but 5. and 6. for which you have given several perfectly good alternatives. If no objections, I will post mine in 5-6 hours; hopefully after I've noticed all who have been playing along have had a last look-see.

1. covering the railings I perch - sitting on the fence

2. perch kinda dehydrated - like a fish out of water

3. dehydrated per calcified remain - dry as a bone

4. remain in the lead about chess - stay ahead of the game

5. chess heavenward - ______________ or above board or castles in the air or a bridge to nowhere

6. heavenward to deeply inhale - ______________ or long winded or take it all in

7. inhale reflectors as well - smoke and mirrors

8. well in the barricade - hole in the wall or in with the bricks

9. barricade several underwater projectile - dam the torpedoes

10. projectile researcher is not necessary - doesn't take a rocket scientist

11. necessary a bit of closed orb - need some shut-eye

12. orb and again the girl travels - around and around she goes

13. travels the glorious lamps - trips the lights fantastic

14. lamps in which they're captured - caught in the headlights

15. captured this particular instance - seized the moment

16. instance gale - second wind or a real blow

17. gale after the still - calm before the storm or second wind

18. still owning the poke - left holding the bag

19. poke with a trident thus kaput - stick a fork in me, I'm done

20. kaput like a portal grip - dead as a door knob

21. grip the cellular invention - hold the phone

22. invention similar to a floor covering - lie like a rug

breathing space

that works for me. another "sound" alternative

board up?

okay, may have been guessed. would not work with my original translation for 6.

breathe in the heights?

not really singing my song with this one.

the game is up?

Don't know if this has been guessed already.

Sorry, no double dipping allowed (cant remember if already guessed but game was already used for the clue "on the other end")

on top of your game, or, on top of the game

Had to edit last one forgot to hide the answer.

same same...

EDIT: missd dD's first guess the first time around...

I'm kinda sad that it's over... and even more so because this dumb 'job' thing kept me from being more involved

Absolutely awesome PG... thumbsup.gif

I definitely agree once, I knew how that puzzle worked I was hooked.

Wow, thanks so much for such songs of praise. I had a blast. That's just icing on the cake. Might think y'all are just pulling my leg but I dont want to look a gift horse in the mouth. At first I was on pins and needles, worried this one would come down like a lead balloon. Especially as it kinda started off on the wrong foot; had this sinking feeling that it would be just a flash in the pan. But in next to no time at all we got on the same page almost as soon as hugemonkey came up with the theme and DudleyDude the overlapping concept. As a rule of thumb I should know better by now to sell short my fellow Denizens. Well, I dont want to beat a dead horse. Back to square one. Thanks again. (now if I could just stop speaking in idiom...)
