Question

Once I was in conflict with

Your winning more than twice.

But now I am beginning

To ignore all your advice.

Starting out with nothing,

It's easy to lose one's face.

Now and then, from beginning to end

You end up fallen from grace.

For who is the center of attention,

It never much mattered to me.

So one for one, none for all

Has become your chosen finale.

Once I was in conflict with

Your winning more than twice. - N, or IN (both of which are in conflict), or INN

But now I am beginning - A

To ignore all your advice.

Starting out with nothing,

It's easy to lose one's face. - THING

Now and then, from beginning to end

You end up fallen from grace. - G, or RACE (race goes from beginning to end)

For who is the center of attention, - TENT

It never much mattered to me.

So one for one, none for all

Has become your chosen finale.

Inn, Thing, Race, and Tent can all afford to lose a letter: In, Thin, Ace, Ten, which leaves behind: N, G, R, T

Overall:

GRANT?

You grant advice, you take grants if you have no money and need it, but I don't get the other verses

DN - some undoubtedly very clever interpretations. esp like the beginning to end / race read. (not my intended read) I dont think the derivation of the answer is that complicated (of course).

Hey PG. Time for one before heading to work.

Conjugation?

hey Wilson - No, nothing to do with that. But am not very good with grammar so apologize if that is what led you there. Have a good day, hope you can drop back by. Cheers

against / disagree / dispute / dissent,

turkey? (bowling), three score?, triple crown?, run, streak, get the better of

kicking off, starting, preparing,

disregard / disrespect

work from the bottom up, start over,

disgrace

sometimes (whole/entire),

disfavored / disliked / (disobedience / disagreement = weak correlation)

focus,

disinterested / dispassionate / disengaged

straight exchange, eye-for-an-eye / all in, done,

desistance / desist / discontinue / the end

wow, tiger_lily, you definitely put in the time as promised. see where you're coming from in most of the above and now better see the dis. not what I have in mind. when you said help, am not exactly sure how. might suggest that literal thinking thing.

(Double)Take, overtake, retake,mistake,intake, partake, outtake....etc.

All on the take?

parliamoglesga......uryeaweegiepolis?

hey Wilson, not that but the riddle is supposed to point to one thing. and the bit outside the spoiler? parliamo glesga - speak glasgow? and the other? your yes small something city? no idea...

Hee, mostly just needed a slap upside the head to do something else ... which I received due to my DIY project that is still laughing maniacally at me. Maybe sometime later will be able to give it thought again, with a less OCD hold! Till then, *happy* Monday!

No hard feelings at all, was just sooo confused  as soon as I read Workinghard's post I knew it had to be right, but didn't know if you'd do that (hence the confusion). As always, a fabulous riddle.

This is one of those "oooooh" moments. Which means it's a good riddle ^^

I'm glad I was at least able to get the first verse, even if I ended up with the totally different answer of GRANT
