  1. Here's another puzzle that I haven't solved yet. Instructions are the same as with the previous puzzles I posted, read them here: (I think this is the last one of these that I will post. Some of the ones that I posted that aren't solved (or not for sure) are: ). Again, the answer we are looking for should be in the form of one letter, either upper case or lower case.

    Any suggestions, ideas, thoughts, narrowing of possible answers would be very welcome!
  2. I see that many people have tried to solve this unsuccessfully. I thought it would be good to post it again, this time in the original form in which it appears in the source, just in case there is some significant information there.

    4, 8, 16, 26, 41,

    57, 79, 104,

    138, 184,

    241,

    ?

    a = 298

    z = 323

    A = 324

    Z = 349

    The only significant thing I see there is that

    it is suggested that the next number is greater than or equal to 298, which confirms the superlinear trend which is apparent from the other 11 members anyway.

  3. I'll share with you what I've noticed.

    Words seem to reuse three of the letters that occur in the word preceding them. The exception is the last word, which reuses only one (S). All the letters that occur more than once are reused in this way in multiple sequential words. This is all I have found for now and I don't know what to look for next.

  5. By changing the cards to letters we will get:

    f E N J x......with 3 upper case letters

    H U p t i.......with 2 upper case letters

    G y A W m.....with 3 upper case letters

    R p d s G.....with 2 upper case letters

    S F f a ( ? )with only 2 upper case letters,

    which means the missing letter should be an upper case letter, which is either hearts or diamonds.

    If we look at the cards again, we will notice that:-

    in 1st row we find 2 diamonds and 1hearts.

    2nd row, 1 diamonds and 1 hearts.

    3rd row 2 diamonds and 1 hearts.

    4th row 1 diamonds and 1 hearts.

    so the 5th row should have 2 diamonds...which means the missing card is diamonds.

    And because it is un upper case so it is 3 of diamonds( I choose 3 because it is the only missing number among the cards)

    and the missing letter is B

    At least when it comes to suits, I can see a stronger pattern. On each of the first 4 rows there is at least one card of each suit. On the last row there are three suits represented, so we can add a fifth card of the missing suit - spades.

    However, I'm not sure whether we should be looking to fill the last row at all.

    I don't know exactly what type of puzzle this is, so if you have an opinion about what type it is likely to be, do share. Any suggestions, ideas, thoughts, narrowing of possible answers would be very welcome!

  8. Here's another puzzle that I haven't solved yet. Instructions are the same as with the last puzzle I posted, read them here:

    We are given the following numbers and letters in a grid 4 by 4. There is one empty square there between the '8's, but there is no indication that we are looking for something to fit in that square. It could be that, or it could be something else. Again, the answer we are looking for should be in the form of one letter, either upper case or lower case.

    1 0 7 k
    9 2 m 5
    2 p 8 4
    h 8   8

    Anyone recognize a common type of puzzle in this?
    Any suggestions, ideas, thoughts, narrowing of possible answers would be very welcome!

  9. "b" ... based on my interpretation of the last sentence "what is not there"... the word "sudtle" should be "subtle"

    You got the answer right. Adding to the observation you made...

    "b" is the only letter in the alphabet that is not used at all in the whole text. All the other 25 letters are used at least once.

    For the second, is there a picture you wanted to upload that did not get uploaded or is "vwQRZ1Y.png" the clue?

    It is an image. I wasn't able to upload it here for some reason. Maybe it will display this way:

  10. Here are a couple of interesting puzzles from the same book.

    The author says about the puzzles (he refers to them as "clues") that most of them rely on logical reasoning and pattern-spotting, that some understanding of mathematics and general knowledge helps with some of them, and that no foreign language skills are required, and that those who have English as a first language will only have a slight advantage.

    The author also writes that each puzzle (Clue) provides exactly one upper- or lower-case letter as an answer and that hints or solutions from a previous puzzle have no impact whatsoever on later ones.

    1. The first one is an easy one:

    welcome to the quiz! i hope you’re excited to get started. there aren’t any instructions for individual clues so just rely on your instincts and, with some luck, you’ll figure them out eventually. i’ll give you a little hint for this first one: the letter is lower-case, as is implied from the intentional lack of capital letters.

    for a few of the clues it’s really quite clear what you need to do while others might seem like random nonsense at first. however, i promise you there is a logical solution to each of these, even if they’re a tad sudtle and not immediately apparent. take your time, try to spot patterns and make connections. sometimes you’ll have to look for what isn’t there rather than what is.

    2. The second one I've not solved yet. You should read the first puzzle first, since it contains general advice or instructions for solving the other puzzles (these are all instructions we get). Again, the answer we are looking for should be in the form of one letter, either upper case or lower case.

    Any suggestions, ideas, thoughts, narrowing of possible answers highly appreciated!
